The thunder of racing trucks will return to the legendary Brands Hatch Circuit this Easter weekend as the opening round of the British Truck Racing Championship roars into life. Alongside the on-track action, MV Commercial will be hosting the MV Commercial Crane Challenge, an interactive competition designed to test skill, precision and control using specialist lifting equipment.
Taking place in the paddock across the weekend, the challenge will give visitors the chance to get hands-on with the kind of machinery typically seen on construction sites and infrastructure projects across the UK.
Precision Meets Power
The Crane Challenge invites participants to step into the operator’s seat and put their crane-handling skills to the test. Using a purpose-built crane truck, competitors will take on a timed task that requires careful coordination and delicate control.
It’s not just about power, it’s about precision.
“Operating a crane is all about accuracy and smooth control,” explained KC Myer, Marketing Manager for MV Commerical and MV Truck Racing. “The challenge is designed to show just how much skill is involved. From the outside it might look straightforward, but once you’re in the seat you quickly realise the level of concentration required.”
Participants will be tasked with manoeuvring a load through a short course and placing it precisely on target, a task that separates steady hands from heavy hands.
Showcasing Specialist Crane Trucks
The competition also highlights MV Commercial’s position as one of the UK’s leading suppliers of purpose-built crane trucks. The company specialises in designing and delivering complete crane truck solutions tailored to the needs of operators across construction, utilities and infrastructure sectors.
By combining premium chassis, high-performance cranes and bespoke body builds, MV Commercial provides vehicles that are ready to work from day one.
“Crane trucks are a core part of what we do,” KC expplained. “Events like this are a great opportunity to showcase the capability of these vehicles while letting people experience crane operation first-hand.”
Working With HTF Skills Academy
The Crane Challenge is being run in conjunction with HTF Skills Academy, a specialist training provider delivering professional crane and lifting equipment training.
HTF Skills Academy offers accredited courses designed to equip operators with the skills and certification needed to safely operate cranes and lifting equipment across a wide range of industries.
“Training and operator competence are essential when it comes to crane operation,” said Graham Kelly, from HTF Skills Academy. “The challenge is a fun way to introduce people to the skills involved while highlighting the importance of proper training.”
Visitors interested in pursuing a career in crane operation or developing their lifting qualifications will also be able to speak with the HTF team during the event.
From Convoy in the Park to Brands Hatch
The Crane Challenge builds on the success of MV Commercial’s previous crane competition at Convoy in the Park, where the activity proved hugely popular with truck racing fans.
“It was incredible to see how many people wanted to get involved,” said KC. “You could see the concentration on people’s faces as they tried to complete the task and plenty of celebrations from the crowd when they got it right!”
Following that success, the team is bringing the concept to Brands Hatch, giving even more visitors the chance to try their hand at crane operation.
A Weekend of Trucks and Motorsport
The Easter weekend event marks the start of the British Truck Racing Championship season and promises a packed schedule of racing and entertainment. The championship’s powerful five-tonne racing trucks will battle it out across multiple races on the iconic Indy circuit, delivering the high-energy spectacle fans have come to expect.
Off track, the paddock will feature show trucks, trade stands, motorsport displays and family-friendly entertainment throughout the weekend.
For MV Commercial, the Crane Challenge adds another dimension to the event while celebrating the engineering and skill behind crane truck operations.
