Inside MV Commercial’s Grantham Crane Truck Manufacturing Supersite - Part 2
Every crane truck operator has different requirements. Some need a proven vehicle available quickly for immediate work. Others need a fully bespoke build engineered around a specific application, crane capacity, body type, payload requirement or site access challenge. At MV Commercial’s Grantham fabrication site, the production model has been designed to support both.

Ready-to-Go or Bespoke: How MV Commercial Builds Crane Trucks Around Customer Demand
The facility operates with two complementary crane truck manufacturing streams: one focused on purpose-built and pre-configured crane trucks, and another dedicated to bespoke, engineered-to-order vehicles.
This dual approach gives customers access to both speed and specialism.

Built-for-Stock Crane Trucks
MV Commercial’s built-for-stock crane truck programme is designed around anticipated market demand and future project requirements.
These vehicles move through structured, high-efficiency production lines and are often aligned with forecast demand up to 18 to 24 months in advance. This allows MV Commercial to prepare the right types of crane trucks before customers urgently need them.
Built-for-stock crane units are typically developed around applications such as general lift-and-shift work, construction support, plant movement, generator hire and infrastructure projects.
For customers, this means faster access to high-quality vehicles that have already been planned, engineered and built around proven industry requirements.
Faster Availability When It Matters
Lead times can be a major challenge in the specialist truck market, particularly for crane vehicles where chassis availability, crane selection, subframe fabrication, body build and final commissioning all need to align.
MV Commercial’s production pipeline helps reduce that pressure.
By maintaining units at different stages of build, MV Commercial can often offer customers a suitable vehicle that is already in production, close to completion or available for final configuration. This gives operators more flexibility and can help bridge the gap while a fully bespoke vehicle is being finalised.
For businesses working on live contracts, this can make a major difference. A crane truck that is already moving through production can help reduce downtime, support fleet expansion and keep projects on schedule.

Bespoke Crane Truck Manufacturing
Alongside the built-for-stock programme, MV Commercial operates a dedicated bespoke production line for specialist crane vehicles.
These builds are engineered to order and developed in close collaboration with the customer. MV Commercial’s in-house design and build teams work with the operator to understand the job, the site conditions, the payload requirements, the lifting application and the specification needed.
This could include a crane rigid for construction delivery, a crane artic for heavy lift-and-shift work, a beavertail crane truck for plant movement, a cheesewedge body for access equipment or a flatbed crane truck for general haulage and lifting.
Every element of the build can be tailored around the customer’s operation, from chassis choice and crane selection through to body layout, storage, access equipment, safety features and finishing details.
Balancing Volume and Flexibility
The strength of the Grantham model is that it does not force customers into one route.
The built-for-stock line supports repeatable, efficient production of proven crane truck configurations. The bespoke line supports high-end specialist builds where the customer needs something tailored to a precise application.
Together, they allow MV Commercial to balance production scale with engineering flexibility.
This is especially important in sectors such as utilities, construction, plant hire, infrastructure and specialist transport, where vehicle requirements can vary significantly from one operator to another.
More Crane and Chassis Combinations Entering Production
With Grantham now fully utilised, MV Commercial is entering the next phase of its manufacturing expansion.
Over the coming 12 months, more than a dozen new crane and chassis combinations are scheduled to enter the production programme. This will further strengthen MV Commercial’s ability to support different applications and provide customers with a wider choice of crane truck solutions.
At the same time, bespoke build capacity continues to grow in response to demand from operators looking for specialist vehicles designed around their exact needs.

Built Around the Customer
MV Commercial is a truly independent, founder-led business. That independence matters because it allows the company to focus on building the right product for the job.
The Grantham production model is not just about increasing output. It is about giving customers the right route into the right vehicle, whether that means a ready-to-go crane truck, a late-stage production unit or a fully bespoke build.
For operators who need practical, reliable and high-performing crane trucks, that flexibility is a major advantage.
